Monthly Reports

Commandeer Larry SmithThe Support Services Division is responsible for a wide array of functions integral to the department’s ability to complete its mission. The division is staffed by 8 commissioned and 42 civilian employees. Commissioned personnel are specially selected for appointment to the division and bring a broad range of experience from their prior police assignments including traffic crash reconstruction, police K9, patrol supervision, investigations, and crime scene processing all of which enhance their ability to develop and present useful programs for the department and the community. They serve primarily as unit supervisors in the division in the areas of crime prevention, crime analysis, training, communication center manager, and grants coordinator. Civilian staff are hired to fill positions requiring more specific skills such as communications operators, computer network administrator, vehicle maintenance technicians, and records clerks just to name a few.

This is a very exciting time for the division. The new 800 Mhz public safety radio system recently went online, and steady progress continues toward implementation of mobile field reporting which is expected to have a major impact on the manner in which the department provides services. It brings the ability to apply statistical analysis to current data resulting in a tremendous advantage in terms of identifying crime problems and developing strategies to address them. In addition, on March 19, 2007 the division moved into the newly refurbished offices in the Law Enforcement Center bringing the entire department together in one location for the first time in many years. Along with new office space the new surroundings also include a spacious new training facility equipped with state of the art audio and visual capabilities that will be a tremendous asset to our training programs. Recent improvements to our outdoor firearms range have improved our ability to bring quality firearms training to the department and other law enforcement agencies in the region.

It is the goal of the division to continue to provide quality services in a professional manner by constantly evaluating the changing needs of the department and the community, and to manage the resources available to us in the most effective and efficient means possible.
