St. Joseph Police Department Employment

Eligibility

To be eligible you must be:

An United States citizen
A minimum of 21 years of age
Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
No Felony convictions
Of good moral character
Vision correctable to 20/20 with normal color vision
Possess a valid drivers license

You must be a Missouri resident and possess a valid Missouri Drivers License at time of employment.

Once applications are received and reviewed by Human Resources testing dates and times are established. Applicants then must pass a physical agility course and a written test exam. Those who successfully complete the physical agility course and written test may proceed on in the hiring process.

Applicants must then successfully pass an oral interview, background/criminal history checks, polygraph examination, and a medical review that includes drug screening and psychological examination.

Probationary Police Officer	$30,188.93 / year
Police Officer	$33,543.25 / year
Police Officer (top out/9 steps)	$47,697.50 / year

The Human Resources Department tests periodically throughout the year and establishes an eligibility-hiring list based on final results achieved by individuals whom apply.
