The Armorer is responsible for the repair and maintenance of all department owned firearms. The Police Department currently owns 120 Smith & Wesson 9 mm handguns, 32 Ruger mini-14 rifles, 47 12-gauge shotguns and several H&K MP 5 sub-machine guns, which are used by the SRT (Special Response Team). All of the firearms need to be serviced and detailed on a regular basis, depending on the exact gun. The Armorer is also responsible for all firearms training for the entire department, including preparing the lesson plans, qualification courses and making the training schedules, as well as maintaining all firearms records.
